Lets check out the figures of meaningless games played by the Giants. From 1997 through 2005, the Giants played 14 meaningless games; eight in 1999, two in 2001 and four last year. Now five more meaningless games are added in the list for 2006. That’s because Arizona dusted the Giants 7-1 on Monday night at AT&T Park, officially eliminating San Francisco from the wild-card race. But Giants still have final five games to play in their current schedule; two against the Diamondbacks and three with the Dodgers, which are simply meaningless. Another would be added if they are compelled to play in St. Louis on Monday to stop Cardinals’ post season chances. It seems Giants are made for meaningless games, during the past few years of Brian Sabean’s tenure as the Giants’ general manager, the team rightfully has touted how few games it has played when out of post season contention.
