After long suspense hours, Terry Ryan, Twins General Manager, engrossed Torii Hunter’s name on the team’s roster for 2007 contract. All-star center fielder Hunter signed his $12 million contract option. Though outfielder still wants a multiyear contract, but at least some of his uncertainty is over. Torii said “I do want a multiyear deal, but you can’t always get what you want. I told him what I wanted but, right there and then. He can’t make that decision, and I understand that. A multiyear deal can take all winter. We’ll see what happens.” Whether he remains beyond next year will depend on whether he and the Twins can get an extension done this winter that takes him into the 2010 opening of the new stadium.
Nobody knows what is destined for them; same goes for Twins and its players. But today the team and its members are very happy for Hunter because he is going to play for another year. Ryan is quite happy with his own decision of calling Torii, he stated “It feels good to have him back. He’s a quality center fielder in the prime of his career. It’s definitely a good feeling when you know you have some people who have helped you get to this point coming back to help you.”
