Dusty Baker has been nominated for Padres’ managerial vacancy. Already a three-time manager of the year with San Francisco Giants, former Cubs skipper Baker can be Padres’ manager of next year. The hunt for Bruce Bochy’s descendant, which has to date focused on candidates without major-league managing experience, has stretched to include Baker, 57, who compiled a record of 1,162-1,041 in 14 years with the Giants and Cubs.
Baker’s appearance on the scene of recruitment for Padres’ manager is something of a surprise, because the Padres earlier decided that they would not be appointing any former Major League managers.
Padres are looking for someone who can take the team to heights. “We want to get the right guy,” Towers said. “After we sit down, if we feel Dusty Baker is the right guy for the ballclub, he’ll be the guy. If it’s one of the others—if you think they’re better than Dusty—he’ll be the guy.” So lets wait and watch what is destined for Baker.
