“A battery that helped power the Detroit Tigers into the American League playoffs for the first time in 19 years came equipped with a golden touch.” I read this somewhere written in praise of Detroit Tigers. Well, yes this is true as left-handed starter Kenny Rogers and catcher Ivan Rodriguez were awarded for their brilliant defense, when the Rawlings Sporting Goods Company and Major League Baseball declared the American League Gold Glove winners for the 2006 season.
Kenny Rogers, whose soiled left hand created a lot of doubt during the World Series, won his fourth straight Gold Glove. Rogers has supplemented his awards collection with fifth Gold Glove award. He is one of seven repeat winners. Another feather in the Tigers crown was added by Ivan Rodriguez. Rodriguez, who won his 12th Gold Glove, has extended his record for catchers. He made just two errors in 801 total chances and threw out a Major League-best 45.7 percent (21-for-46) of would-be base stealers, including a nearly two-month span around midseason without allowing a stolen base.
The Tigers were the only AL team to win more than one Gold Glove recipient.
