Bud Black had to wait long for this opportunity to manage a team, and today he is going to fulfill his long awaited dream. He is now ready to start at the highest level.
Black signed a two year contract with padres on Tuesday after being initially interviewed with Towers. He was selected over five other candidates to replace Bruce Bochy, now manager of the Giants. The 49-year-old Black, the Los Angeles Angels’ pitching coach for the past seven seasons, is quite confident to face the upcoming challenges. Black was asked if his lack of managerial experience at any level was a concern.
“I don’t think so,” he said. “When you talk about managing, obviously you hope to have the qualities to lead a team, to lead men. Hopefully my career as a player and as coach has given me those opportunities to get those skills in order to manage. You have to start somewhere. Fortunately, I’m starting at the top.”
Though Black has attained the platform he always desired for, but now he will have to prove his caliber. I wish all the very good luck for his new opening.
