Atlanta Braves made their first free agent deal with Tanyon Strutze. With this move John Schuerholz has made an attempt to provide stability to his wobbly bullpen. Sturtze, 36 year old right hander, missed most of last season due to rotator cuff surgery. Though he stepped into Majors with high expectations but he made just 18 appearances with Yankees before being listed on the disabled list. But, now this Brave will start playing from the first week of January.
Sturtze, started his Big League career began with the Cubs in 1995. Sturtze was Tampa Bay’s team MVP in 2001, when he was 11-12 with a 4.42 ERA in 39 games, including 27 starts. He was 4-18 in 33 starts the following season. Tayton has played consistently through out his career.
Sturtze is guaranteed $750,000 and would make another $350,000 if he spends one day on the Braves’ 25-man roster. He also could earn another $450,000 in bonuses based on the number of appearances he makes as a starter and reliever.
