After spending 15 successful years in the Major League Baseball, Jeff Bagwell announced his retirement on Friday. He spent all years of his influential career in an Astros uniform following an August 1990 trade with the Red Sox, who traded Bagwell for reliever Larry Anderson. The four-time All Star will continue with the Huston Astros as part of a personal-services agreement.
Due to injuries in his right shoulder, Bagwell was unable to play in 2006 after playing in just 38 games in 2005.

In spite of his unique and exceptional unconventional batting stance, Bagwell showed miraculous power at the plate, ranking among the top 15 players in home runs and RBIs throughout the 1990s. Bagwell leaves the Astros as the team’s all-time leader in home runs (449), RBIs (1,529), walks (1,401) and extra-base hits (969). He had a lifetime batting average of .297.
