Yanks, D-backs Finalized Deal On Unit Trade

The Yankees and Diamondbacks have reached an agreement on a trade that would send Randy Johnson to Arizona. All that remains is for the Yankees and Diamondbacks to work out their minor differences, and the Big Unit’s departure from the Bronx will be complete.

Randy Johnson
Johnson pitched in Arizona from 1999 to 2004, including the D-backs’ 2001 World Series victory over the Yankees. With New York, Johnson posted a record of 34-19, bringing his career total to 280 victories, but he was 0-1 with a 6.92 ERA in three postseason starts.
Four players from Arizona including major league reliever Luis Vizcaino, pitching prospect Ross Ohlendorf and minor league shortstop Alberto Gonzalez will head toward Yankees. The bunch would fulfill the Yankees’ aim of replacing their farm system with younger talent, much of it close to being ready for service at the Major League level. Yankees will also send $2 million to the D’backs to offset Johnson’s $16 million salary in 2007.
