Mike Matheny would never play again, because of persistent post-concussion symptoms. His doctor repudiated to clear the four-time Gold Glove catcher to play in 2007 after a concussion sidelined him for the final four months of last season.
Announcement for Mike’s retirement was no surprise. Because of a series of foul tips he took in the mask, he had this in some corner of his mind that he may have to say goodbye to is game the soon. But this is a wise decision; no one can risk one’s life. It’s not a shoulder, a knee, an elbow, an arm or a leg, its BRAIN.
