Hideki Matsui has been placed on 15-day disabled list for the second successive season on Sunday due to strain in his left hamstring while running out a ground ball.
The Yankees superstar played in 1,768 games from 1994 till May 2006 but after Matsui was named on disable list with a broken left wrist. He stressed the hamstring during the second inning against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.

Now, as the Yankees are already short on outfielders, they are planning to summon up Kevin Thompson from Triple-A Scranton of the International League. Matsui will be replaced by Kevin Thompson on the 25-man roster. Thompson batted .300 in 19 games for the New York Yankees during 2006 across three stints, and is anticipated to take Melky Cabrera’s role as a preserve when he convenes with the team in Minnesota.
Let’s hope the Yankees get their player back in all good health.
