AS GRIFFEY SHINES REDS STILL LOSE

Cincinnati’s Ken Griffey Jr., makes a home run hit against the Seattle Mariners.

Safeco Field in Seattle and the Reds face the Mariners in a showdown that helped push Ken Griffey Jr. to seventh place on the career list which was where Mark McGwire was standing. This however was not the day for the Reds as they lost 3-2 to the Seattle Mariners, who took the series finale as well as the series 2-1.

The thirty seven year old Griffey, claimed that he was glad to playing where he started from and before he retires he said that he would be happy to come back to play for the Mariners again. During the game Griffey managed to make two home runs with the first going to left center and the second to right field.

With Griffey clearly the star of all the three inter-league games played in Seattle, however Seattle players like Ben Broussard were the key players who helped the Mariners take the finale game. Ben hit a two-out and a two run double in the bottom sixth and got help from Bloomquist who was able to squeeze a suicide in the seventh inning to help the Mariners beat the Reds.
