What a match! Was all one could say after seeing Cincinnati Reds Kenny Griffey Jr. outshine Texas Rangers Sammy Sosa. Sosa who was out to make his career 600th home run was outshone by Griffey who reached his career 581 home run two shy of Mark McGwire for seventh place in the history books. Sammy who was only one homer short from become the fifth player in history to make 600, had previously had a grand slam on Friday nights game, which had helped the Rangers take the lead in the series opener.
With the Reds taking this game 8-4, the two teams are now tied in this three game series. Griffey managed to reach his 54th career multi-homer game, and he now has forty six home runs in interleague play, which is second to Jim Thome’s fifty two.
Other key players would include David Ross who also made two home runs in this game and managed to reach his sixth multi-homer game of his career. This was Ross’s first multi-hit game since May 6th. Adam Dunn also proved to be an asset when he and Griffey made back to back home runs in the first innings.
