Several heavy down pours delayed the start of the Tigers and Yankees game at Comerica Park. Andrew Miller was the first to pitch for the tigers just after eleven p.m. ET. Magglio Ordonez’s 2-run home run came off Roger Clemens and gave the Tigers a 1st -inning lead, the tigers American League MVP contender Alex Rodriguez 2-run shot put his team in the lead when he hit miller deep into right center field. Two hours into the game, Hideki Matsui’s RBI single tied the score at six runs a piece, from then on the score board didn’t tick for another two hours. Joba Chamberlain, Kyle Farnsworth and Edwar Ramirez, all retired after a scoreless innings each, Luis Vizcaino marooned 2 runners whilst Sean Casey flied out to right fielding, pushing the game into extra frames.

Fernando Rodney, struck out the side in the ninth inning, and had a clean sheet in the 10th before Mariano Rivera with a reaching catch from Andy Phillips at first base struck out Cameron Maybin. The tigers brought the proceedings to an end with a Carlos Guillen three-run homer in the bottom of the 11th, to edge out the Yankees 9-6 after 3 p.m. on Saturday morning.
