SAN DIEGO–The padres padres, went all out at PETCO Park to beat the dodgers in the first game to the series. The Dodgers dodgers, drew first blood with a run during the 1st innings, but the Padres countered by scoring three runs off their former teammate, David Wells. Wells didn’t seem to be comfortable against his old team, He walked Brian Giles, Mike Cameron was next up with a single and was unable to strike out Milton Bradley, from then on things went down hill for Wells. Adrian Gonzalez hammered an RBI single, Cahill Greene doubled to notch up another run and Kevin Kouzmanoff completed the run fest with another RBI single. Wells ended the night with 3 runs on 6 hits over 5 innings.
Jack Cassel made his first Major League start on Friday having being recalled from Triple-A Portland. He pitched 5 2/3 innings, accounting for 3 runs on 10 hits. Russell Martins brought the Dodgers right back into the game in the sixth with two RBIs in the 6th innings, and tied the game at 3 a piece with an RBI single. At the bottom of the sixth Gonzalez gave the Padres the lead with an RBI single. In the seventh the Padres added two more runs to secure the game.
