The largest metro city in a 600 mile radius Denver is the capital of the state of Colorado, United States of America. The city is perfectly positioned on the plains in the east of the foothills of the Rockies Mountains. The city dramatic settings form an awesome skyline to the west. The main business district lies in east side of the South Platte River. The city is the provincial seat of the Denver County. According to the survey conducted in 2000 the population of the city was 554,636 and of the metropolitan area was 2,581,506, making it the 19th-largest urban area in the US. The city is also dubbed as "Mile-High City" owing to its official elevation. Even the purple seats of the Coors Field (home ballpark of MLB’s Colorado Rockies) in the upper deck signify that, that particular row of purple seats is one mile above sea level. The city due to its historic importance and its key role in the promotion of agricultural industry is also known as the Queen City of the Plains. In order to honor the city, numerous US Navy ships have been named USS Denver. The Denver city came into existence in 1858 in the province of Kansas.

The same year, General William Larimer, a land entrepreneur and a native of eastern Kansas, positioned cottonwood logs to business enterprise a square-mile state on the hill overlooking the convergence of the South Platte River and Cherry Creek, transversely on the stream from the mining settlement of Auraria. Larimer, along with his acquaintances established in the Denver City Land Company started trading land parcels in the city to the traders and the miners with an objective to set up a metropolitan city that would gratify the needs of the new emigrants. To pay obeisance to the Kansas territorial governor James W. Denver, the moniker "Denver City" was chosen and it was also ensured that the city would become the provincial seat of then Arapaho County, Kansas. The town in its initial years flourished rapidly since the land parcels were often traded for supplies or funds on promise of material assistance by the miners in Auraria. On November 7, 1861, the city was incorporated. Denver boasts of 79 executive "neighborhoods." These "neighborhoods" are used by the civilians and the community groups for scheduling and managing. Although the City's definition of the "neighborhood" boundaries is subjective, but usually match up to those used by Denverites to explain a particular place.

The city of Denver has the nation's largest city park system. The city has over 200 parks and 20,000 acres of parks in mountains that are in close proximity. Denver has 300 days of bright sunshine a year. The Denver International Airport is 53 square miles and is the nation's largest. The area is so large that it can accommodate the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport and Chicago O'Hare Airport combined. The city is also an abode of four Major League sports viz. Colorado Avalanche (National Hockey League), Denver Nuggets (National Basketball Association), Denver Broncos (National Football League), and Colorado Rockies (Major League Baseball). Two professional soccer teams are also housed in the city. Denver hosted the 1976 Winter Olympics which coincided with Colorado's centennial anniversary. The key industries of the city of Denver are communications, utilities, and transportation. The Rocky Mountains west of Denver facilitate people to map read the city by serving as a directional reference. Denver’s climate is characterized by light rainfall; especially having from about 10 to 20 inches (25 to 51 centimeters) of annual precipitation with an average of 15.4. The winters are dry winters and the springs are wet. Summers have low-humidity along with pleasant falls.
