As a Major League Baseball team New York Mets is based Flushing, Queens, New York. The Mets are in the Eastern Division of the National League. New York Mets has won two World Series titles, four National League Pennants, four East Division titles and two Wild Card Berths. Current uniforms colors are Blue, Orange and Black and Mr. Met is the franchise current mascot. In a decade of their establishment the Mets became the darling among the baseball fans. The Mets has proved themselves in its forty years and has its traditions and a firm set base in New York. They could never stand on the expectations of the fans but the team spirit and traditions of pitching excellence have helped them to become beloved among the admirers. When the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants vacated New York City for the west coast, this left New York City without any National League team. It was after the coming of the Mets in the City that removed the bitter taste left by the deflection of the Dodgers and Giants. The Mets was born with the help of a New York attorney, Bill Shea and other notable assembly. Notable players in New York Mets are Tom Seaver, Dwight Gooden, and Darryl Gooden and not to forget are Gil Hodges Casey Stengel, Tom Seaver. The Mets are linked with the Houston Astros as the oldest franchise without an individual batting title.
The Mets gained the Wild Card spot for the second straight year in 2000. In the NLDS they swept, the San Francisco Giants as Bobby J. Jones pitched a 1 hitter in the lat game, which made the Mets eligible to contend for NLCS. The Mets faced the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLCS in which Mets lefty Mike Hampton pitched 2 complete shutouts earning the NLCS MVP honors, and sending the Mets to make their 4th World Series appearance. The Mets team this time was relatively young that rematched with the Yankees in a so-called Subway Series in 44 years.
Located in Queens 126th Street and Roosevelt Avenue, Flushing, New York, Shea Stadium is home to the New York Mets Baseball team. Shea Stadium has been housing the Mets since it's opening in 1964. The stadium also housed the New York Yankees during the 1974 and 1975 seasons while Yankee Stadium was being renovated. The Yankees also played one "home" game at Shea in 1998 after a beam collapsed at Yankee Stadium, which destroyed rows of seats. From 1964 to 1983, the New York Jets, a NFL team played its home games at Shea Stadium.
