San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres are a Major League Baseball team based in San Diego , California . They are in the Western Division of the National League. The Padres made their first playoff appearance in 1998 with an 82-80 record. They could have done better with 90 winning games and be a winner of the World Series championship that year. So the club is planning to do what they couldn't do in 1998. San Diego was division championships during last year, so with all their hopes high they have marked an entry this year. The Padres will go as far as the back end of their rotation takes them. The talent is there in Peavy and Chris Young, and other significant players of the team are Williams, Estes and Park crown. If those three manage to win 40 games, San Diego can see itself with division titles again. The bullpen chronicle is repeated with Scott Linebrink is after Hoffman but gaps left by Akinori Otsuka, Rudy Seanez and Chris Hammond still need replacements. The Padres didn't try to sign Ramon Hernandez once again.

Piazza is expected to catch 100 or so games, and likely will hit cleanup. He will supply in supplementary force, he will give up in stolen bases by the opposition. The outfield also has been scuffled, with only right fielder Giles retaining in the same place. Khalil Greene is anticipated for a slight drop in performance andVinny Castilla is estimated to be a terrible offense; he is even shoddier than the now-departed Sean Burroughs. At present the Padres are among the strongest teams and NL west and have the capability to contend for NL West division. The Padres as they rank now would be hard-pressed to proceed far in the playoffs, but with a healthy Peavy leading the rotation anything is possible. There is just too much likely degeneration amongst important players, such as Giles, Roberts and Klesko, that Towers did not do adequate to answer. It is believed that the Padres may win 85 games this season and may not be able to reach Playoffs but definitely they need a reasonable amount to break right for them to reach that figure. The players of the team justified themselves and showed better performance than last year and claim to repeat the success once again. The team has celebrity fan list; singers Patti Page and Frankie Laine, film actor Jerry Lewis, former astronaut Wally Schirra are long time fans of the team.

Petco Park is not like other recently constructed baseball-only-facility. It possesses its own unique personality and is architecturally stupendous. It has a fantastic downtown location and is explicitly a reflection of San Diego . Located in downtown San Diego , California , the ballpark was built to replace the aging Qualcomm Stadium/Jack Murphy Stadium. The San Diego Padres after spending more than three decades at Jack Murphy Stadium inaugurated the state-of-art facility in 2004. Built at the cost of $450 million, the stadium was built as a part of a revitalization plan to renew San Diego 's aging downtown, particularly the East Village area east of the Gaslamp Quarter.

Founded as one of four new expansion teams of National League

Founded as one of four new expansion teams of National League, the Padres joined the Western Division of NL in 1969. Deriving their name from the Spanish word used for priest, which was earlier used by some other club that belonged to the Pacific Coast League, the Padres faced the jinx in their formative years. They even finished last in the division for six straight seasons. In 1973 outfielder Dave Winfield joined the team and became the team’s first superstar. Five times he led the club in home runs and seven times in runs batted in, in his career of eight years in the Padres uniform.
