Michael Scott Matheny's unbelievable receiving skills and defensively good athletic skills make him one of the prodigal player in the MLB. Drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 8th round in 1991, he broke into the Major Leagues on April 7, 1994 , as pinch-hitter against Oakland . Currently he plays for the San Francisco Giants as a catcher. He is considered one of the best defensive catchers to have ever played in the major leagues who played for the Milwaukee Brewers (1994-1998), Toronto Blue Jays (1999), and the St. Louis Cardinals (2000-2004). In the Cardinals jersey, he led his team to the postseason in every year with an exception of 2003 season. He is a 3-time Gold Glove winner with 11 years of experience in MLB. He established catching records with 252 successive errorless games and 1,565 straight chances without any defensive mistake. He holds .239 lifetime avg. with 148 2Bs, 51 HRs and 366 RBI in 1,124 career big league games with Milwaukee (1994-98), Toronto (1999) and St. Louis (2000-04). The San Francisco Giants signed him on December 13, 2004 to a three-year contract. Mike g raduated from Reyonldsburg (OH) High School in 1988, where he captained baseball and football teams and won Connie Mack National Championship in 1989. After completing his graduation he went on to attend the University of Michigan , where he was co-captain of Wolverines' baseball team.
