Turner Field Stadium

Built adjacent to Fulton County Stadium, Turner Field is located in Atlanta , Georgia , USA . Built originally to host the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta , Turner Field is now one of the best places to watch a baseball game. Nicknamed "The Ted," the luxurious, classic stadium is another in a line of new neo-traditional stadiums/ it is a suburban ballpark that is located within the boundaries of Atlanta city. Due to its suburban location there's ample of free parking within walking distance of the ballpark. With an aging Atlanta Fulton County Stadium, the Braves began lobbying for a new stadium in the late 1980's. The Braves became more resolute after the announcement that the '96 Olympics would be played in Atlanta . It was planned that the stadium would first host the Olympics and afterwards will be converted into a baseball facility. Provisional bleachers were installed beyond the outfield fence for the Olympics. After the games ended, the stadium was retro-fitted, and converted to baseball. A great deal of the north end of stadium was removed in order to convert it to its permanent use as a 45,000-seat baseball facility.

The columns that provided support to the bleachers are now posts for a fence that encloses Monument Grove plaza. It was a $200 million "gift" from the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) to the Braves, which was made useless for other first-class track and field and other large events. The stadium was named Turner Field after the Atlanta Braves owner Ted Turner. The stadium has been housing the Braves since 1997. The stadium was inaugurated on April 4, 1997 with a seating capacity of 50,096. The Braves in their home-opening game bested the defeated the Cubs by 5-4. Immediately after its opening it became a landmark. Statues of Hank Aaron, Phil Neikro and Ty Cobb as well as the retired number statues of Warren Spahn, Eddie Mathews, Hank Aaron, Phil Niekro and Dale Murphy are there, which makes the people reminiscent of their contributions. A 100 foot diameter photograph of Hank Aaron's 715th homerun ball on the Plaza side scoreboard is an ensured crowd puller. There are many entrances around the ballpark, but people prefer using the Grand Entry Plaza to enter. Ramps are located at each end of the plaza. Adjacent to Monument Grove is the main entry plaza, where fans can enjoy a wide range of food and activities before they go to their seats. The playing field is twenty feet below street level.

The field level seating section stretches from the left field foul pole around to home plate, and to the right field foul pole. Additional seating is located in leftfield, and in parts of right field. All of the seats are dark blue with red number markers. There are fifty nine luxury suites and three party suites located away unnoticeably under the upper deck. The Braves bullpen is located between the field pavilion seats in right field and the opposing team bullpen is located beyond the left field foul pole. Outside, the ballpark, the walls are made of brick and limestone. The next level up is the Lexus level. The Lexus level extends from right field to the right field foul pole, around to home plate, and down and around the left field foul pole to the 755 restaurant. 755 Club restaurant is a private restaurant located on the Club Level above left field. The concourses do a very good job at providing what people want. The food is fantastic and there are plenty of other things to buy. A wide variety of food--from hot dogs to the obscure "conewich," a barbecue sandwich in a bread cone--is available. From the concourse fans can also see the surrounding neighborhood and the City of Atlanta . The Coca-Cola Skyfield located at the end of the upper level concourse overlooking left field is an interactive area that offers games for children and an area where warm fans can cool off under a light mist of water.

The ballpark is flawlessly clean. The Braves Museum and Hall of Fame features artifacts from the Braves days in Boston , Milwaukee , and Atlanta . It is open throughout the year. Scouts Alley, located under the left field stands, has interactive games for kids and also allows fans to test their throwing and hitting skills. The BravesVision video board, which is 29 feet by 38 feet, is located above the hitters background in center field. Tooner Field, allows fans to play multiple video games and pose with shots of their favorite Cartoon Network Characters. Above the Braves bullpen, an 8,000 square foot dinning restaurant, The Braves Chop House is located and offers fine dining during the game. The Braves Clubhouse Store, located in the plaza area, has a large selection of Braves merchandise. Among the improvements was installation of a $10 million 80' by 72' high definition video display along the upper deck. It was listed as the world's largest high definition video board by the Guinness Book of World Records. A 1080 foot long LED was also installed on the upper deck for showcasing anything from commercial to statistics.
